J. B. Bréval - Sonata in G major, Op. 12 N° 5 - arranged for cello and piano by Diran Alexanian
Jean-Baptiste Bréval wrote three series of six sonatas for cello and basso (opp. 12, 28 & 40).
Even with the fast diffusion of keyboard instruments, he never created a version of them for cello with keyboard accompaniment.
Especially at the end of the XIX century, several cellists decided to arrange many of them for cello and piano, often heavily altering the cello part as well.
Among them, we chose to publish the version by Armenian cellist Diran Alexanian (1880–1954) of the G-major Sonata, op. 12 no. 5, which attracted our attention with its creativity in the choice of harmonic colours.
This edition comes with a full score and a separate cello part.
It is a great addition to your collection, especially if you already have the urtext version (ASE 0020)(https://artisticscoreng.gumroad.com/l/ScbNx).
A big thank you to the Martha Blakeney Hodges Special Collections for providing a copy of the Alexanian source and to Maestro Yuriy Leonovich for inspiring yet another great edition.
