Carlo Alfredo Piatti composed only one more piece for cello solo besides the Twelve Caprices, Op. 25, the Capriccio sopra un tema della Niobe di Pacini, Op. 22, published in 1864, but apparently performed for the first time in 1843 in Budapest. It is a virtuoso, deeply lyrical, beautiful piece and it is now available in this thoroughly researched edition. Editorial Notes explain the origin of the theme in Pacini’s lost opera, and the odyssey the manuscript had to live through before the initial publication. Critical Notes compare the surviving sources, providing you with a modern, clean, and easy-to-play-from score.

It has been a honour to be allowed to collaborate with Maestro Antonio Meneses, who kindly edited the included additional cello part after his outstanding recording in the CD “Capriccioso”. This marks the start of a new, wonderful collaboration for our editions!
